Here's the link to GU's server rental page. If someone finds a server rental company they want me to check out I would be happy to do so. Usually the server rental co. has demo servers or is running a full server and has IP's to them, so it would be great if before you suggest them if you could maybe go to the server IP's from that co. and check out ping speed, lag, redirect. Especially the players in Europe. We want to try and find something to lvl out the pings for everyone. So a server on the east coast(ie. new york etc.) or in Europe/U.K.(ie. London, Dublin etc.) But I would really like us to do some research here before we buy one. Because I don't want to spend a bung load of $$$ for a doo doo server or have a good server that everyone nit-picks to death. Anyhoo, here is the GU link now ;D Thanks gamerzunlimited.net/shoppingcart.htm

GU looks ok. I don't see much on the way of demo's on the GU site, so I can't say much for them yet.

I have played on a few of their servers and even their European Invasion server. The US ones are good with the exception of one little snag. That is when on their servers about every minute or two (could be 3-5) the servers sort of lag out for about 10 or 15 seconds then gameplay resumes and all is normal. I don't know if that is due to mods, mutators or what maybe antiTCC doing checks..who knows. Their European server does have a high ping for me but they are running Excessive and about a thousand mods and mutes. Then, there was a whole issue with their redirect server going down for about 2-3 weeks which has been fixed. I'll get some IP's cause I know they have like ONS/CTF/AS servers also, and I'll post them here for ya. ;D

Sorry for being gone for awhile not being able to provide feedback. Anyways GU is okay, but I'd say its service is absolutely shit. There is nothing that you can throw at me to prove like-wise. GU has servers, but their servers are not dedicated. They are shared. Their connection wont help Obi at all. They arent even located close to a cross-continental pipelines, nevermind owning a dedicated line themselves.
My advice is to stop probing around for something cheaper. There is always people who provide services that are true to a degree. But seriously put A, B, C, and D together and you will realise how unrealistic the services they supposidly provide are. Granted there will always be one service cheaper than another, but my advice is to keep yourselves from going overboard.

Well, then a suggestion would be nice. But I am not going to be solely responsible for getting and paying for a $200.00 a month server rental. As much as I would love to have the awsome kick *ss server with every do-dad, bell and whistle , the amount of money it will cost for that is excessive to say the least. The thing is that you buy what you can afford. And since I've not gotten any commitment from anyone else in regards to paying for a server it looks like I'll be the one paying. Paying isn't that big of a deal for me but there are limits in terms of cost. I mean do we want a great server for 6 people costing $50.00 a month or do we want a so-so server for 12 people costin $50.00 a month. I am trying to be fair about this in getting input from everyone on what they think.
I am not aware of all the server rental options out there nor am I horribly familiar with overseas or even US network transport lines. All I want is a good server that doesn't whirl me into bankruptcy court or force me onto food stamps. I mean if someone suggested a good company with good connect speeds etc. for a decent price I would certainly check it out. But, nothing so far except a couple from Ph4nt0mL0ord. Since that has not been the case I have been spending time google searching and link clicking and forum visiting trying to find something that won't be nit-picked to death by everyone for every wonderful extra that it doesn't have and pay for it myself. So that is why I posted this, to ask for suggestions. I went ahead and got this one from VSK without discussing or researching and it seems everyone has a problem with it in some way or another. So I am not going to be doing that again and take the rap for picking a cr*ppy server.
So if people aren't happy with my choices then please, feel free to suggest something. But remember, I am so far the only one paying for this so a highly priced server wouldn't be a viable suggestion.

Now, I just went to two gameserver sites and their actual servers. BFG game server and Clanserver.com. Both are about the same in price. First the redirect: Very fast on BFG and So-So for Clanserver.com. Gameplay seemed very good and smooth on BFG and a bit sluggish on Clanserver.com. Ping for me on BFG in mid 70's. Clanserver.com Ping in 80's-90's. There were sample servers listed on each site. On BFG they had a couple listed but one was a UT demo server so I didn't use that one and there were a couple listed on Clanserver.com but the 2nd was p/w protected. A benefit on BFG: allows you to switch server base location a maximum of 4 times per month plus they do have servers based in London. So if Euro players or anyone wants to check them out that would be great, if not, then don't. ;DHere are the IP's:
BFG: 69.93.214.60:7777 was running CTF when I was on Clanserver.com: 66.55.134.102:7777 running instagib DM when I was on
Here are the tracert logs from all the servers, the last one is from the Clanserver.com p/w protected server.

Another server company is GibGames.com also one that I have played on, on many occassions with no problems you can probably find demo servers under GibGames.com in pretty much every gametype of UT2004. Maybe I should start posting this info in the forums general category since only a couple of people ever reply? Here is the link to their site. gibgames.com/rentals.php

Yay! feedback from at least one person. Groovy! Also, I noticed some new signature pictures for you. I've been thinking I want a new one too. Thank you for going to their servers I appreciate it. ;D

Oh, yeah, I was also on a BFG server, and it was pretty good, but I liked the gibgames much better. Tis felt like much smoother gameplay. Though I forgot which had a faster connecting speed. I remember being surprised with how fast one of them connected.

Excellent, now if we can only get our euro members to check them out and let us know then we'll be set. The one thing that stood out on BFG servers was that they allow you to change your server location 4 times per month so we could have it based in europe or east coast etc. But GibGames certainly works for me. Come on Euro people, get on it!
