I've recently bought FarCry and these are the conclusions so far: The story is basically the FPS cliche - science gone mad, creating monsters and you kill them and everyone else. Which was already a science fiction cliche before it became a gaming cliche. That said, it's very well executed. It's set on a tropical island with lots of old Japanese WWII bases, which gives it a very nice atmosphere. The engine they use does all that foliage really well. The limited number of weapons you can carry at once feels limiting at first, but it does add another little bit of strategic decision making. There's some nonlinearity in there as well, which should make for good replay value. It's also the first game with save points where I don't really mind that system. They're very well placed. All in all, not a very original game but very very solid. Which is good.

I think that review is quite a bit different from many others. Most have commented on the graphics, the long range shooting, and a few other minor details about the game's combatting. I mean, the game has always looked really swell, but until now, I didn't really know a lot about the game. Once I get my crapload of hardware this summer, I might take a better look at it.

LOL is that an imp in ur siggy? looks a lot like the one from doom3
anyways, farcry rocked, if u got the patch, becuz i had large big black spots on the ground, sorta graphical mismatch. and to tell u the truth it got a bit booring. like in the river scene, at the start u think its really aweasome and stuff..but when u have to go half way without a boat, becuz u managed to survive and jump out of the boat about to explode, it really dulls ur senses.

I'm still thinking there might have been a way to go all the way with the boat - maybe shoot the gunner with the sniper gun? (Anyway, I took the land route to the next objective... ;D)

Update: I keep noticing some mistakes now and then - leaks between textures, the corners of the skyboxes - but it's still quite engaging. There's a good balance between 'I'm never going to get through this' and the number of attempts it will actually take you.
