You can count on that Matrix game to have a monthly fee to play. Couldn't they just make those Massive Multiplayer games cost a lot more instead of having stupid montly fees?

The reason they cost a monthly fee to play is cuz the peeps behind it have to keep their servers up. It's not like all the other games were you the developers juts let all the users get their servers. Just charging more will eventualy run out, so they have to charge a monthly fee to ensure that the game will always be out there to be played.

well imagine if a game has 100000 players per serv. that means the serv makes 1,5 mil a month! now tell me, do they realy need that much money to keep up the server and to upgrade misions and stuff?

There is no way in hell they need that much money to keep a server going. But do you think there will really be 100,000 people in one server?

Exactly, there won't be THAT many people on a server, not to mention there are always more than one server. CoH has about 10 servers (I like to play on the Liberty server.)

I have never played any kind of Massive Multiplayer game, so I was just wonder, how many people actually do play in one server and how does it work with so many?

A friend of mine plays FF online and he said that there is a limit of people that can play on a server(1000 maybe) and that you can only play on the server you start on. Unless you pay to be on a different server that is were you will stay. but you can't play with people you know unless they are on the same server as you. So really for every server running there is a completely different game happening on each.

Thats a lot of crazy stuff that I don't think I want to get in to. I was thinking about trying planetslide, but I doubt the game is good enough for me to pay a payment every month.

ok what i meant to say is that all the servers are kept up by the developers. 50 servers, 2000 people in each 1.5 mil, the same cash.

FF11 is a shit game. Most other mmorpg's allow you to choose your server and let you use a different one everytime you log in. In CoH, I like to use the liberty server.

In Earth & Beyond you log on to their main server, there's only the one, and I think it's the same as Star Wars - Galaxies. I looked at the planetside game and opted out. After playing E&B and Star Wars...whew!
Talk about time commitment, Especially E&B

I hear Earth and Beyond is BORING! And I thought that Sar Wars Galaxies had both private servers and official, becuase one of the computer help shows I watch occasionaly uses SWG for a LAN party, and they seem to have they're own server. Odd, isn't it?
